William Eggleston pioneered colour photography in the 1970s, at which point was still expensive. To gain the colorful photographs he produced he would supersaturate the photos, giving the unique style he had at the time, these effects are still incredibly famous and well used today, in digital photography they are used as filters, commonly seen on photo filter apps, famously used on Instagram.
